Re: Burlington Old City
Hall
Phase
2 Restoration
Dear
Mr. Scozzari:
I
would like to congratulate you on your firm's work on the restoration of the Burlington Old City
Hall. This
was a complicated project made no less easy by financial constraints. I
appreciate your willingness to be flexible with regard to the approach to some
of the restoration work. The final product reflects the care and seriousness
that you and your craftspeople brought to the project, and demanded of
subcontractors. It was clear throughout that you and Jim Hutchinson, the job
superintendent, were extremely concerned with the quality of the final product,
often going the extra mile to assure that the work was done the night way. Jim
was energetic and creative in devising solutions to problems that came up, and
was extremely responsible in communicating with me about job progress.
It
is worth noting that both the flat and molded plaster work was done in a highly
professional manner, and involved more work than anyone would have anticipated
at the outset. The ceremonial stair was a complicated 3‑dimensional puzzle
to rebuild, and Jim has restored it to its original elegance. Also notable is
the clear shellac finish that shows the richness of the chestnut woodwork, all
of which had been painted. One's first response in entering the finished spaces
is "Wow!,.
I
know that the City of Burlington,
the owner, is ecstatic with the appearance of the building. Personally, I would
look forward to working with you further to complete the building in subsequent
phases.
